โฆ Synopsis
MCD measurements on XeF, XeCI. XeBr and XeI matrix isolated in Ar at low temperature are reported. Some relationships among the various spectroscopic parameters are established by combining these data with existing absorption and ESR measurements. * This work was supported by the National Science Foundation. ** A description of matri.. isolation MCD techniques may be found in the pioneering paper by Douglas et aL [2]. t For a dlscussion of MCD spectroscopy and nomenclature, see for exampIe ref. [3].

The magnetic circular dichroism spectrum of atmospheric oxygen co"densed on a cold window has been mcaswed in the region from 240-1'70 nm. Analysis of'the spectrum shows that the transition observed is "'Xi -+ 3Au. The corresponding absorption has previously been observed only in the gq phase using
Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra are reported for (+), (-) and (-+) a-pinene, and (-) /3-pinene, isolated in argon matrices at ~18 K. These are the first observations of VCD of matrix-isolated molecules. Spectra are limited to the C-H stretching region (2800-3100 cm -1 ). In all cases, t
Persistent spectral hole-burning in the Q-band region is reported for a concentrated (= 2 x 10 -2 mol 1-]) matrix of copper phthalocyanine in solid Ar at 1.6 K. Hole-burning occurs with a quantum efficiency of = 10 -6 and can be reversed by annealing at ~ 28 K. Vibrational side holes allow determina
