β¦ Synopsis
The magnetic clrcuiar dlchrolsm of benzene vapor has been studled usms spnchrotron radiation wth attention focused on the 3R'. 3R". and 3R"' regon. The data are consistent wth assignments, 'A,,-*q2u, 'III, for R, R', respectively, from i;(e$--_)zp ewitations and support asslgnmenr of R". R"' to 'A=--'E,, tran&ons from zr(el_)-Irf ewxtations. -_ * We follow the Wdkinson nomenclature [3] and use his energy for 3R' as our wavelength calibration.

The magnetic circular dichroism spectrum of the 'Z + + 'A transition in OCS contains two signals of opposite sign. The spectrum is interpreted as resulting from two B terms associated with the 'A' and 'A" states that originate from the 'A state, which undergoes a change in its geometry to a bent con
