✦ Synopsis

Emission spectra, long lifetimes and surprisingly high quantum efficiencies were observed at 300 K in phospharc glasses with modifyers (such 3s lithium, magnesium. aluminium, zinc, barium, kmthanum and lead) containing highly varying manganese(I1) concentrations. l'hc strong shift toward the red at high .\ln(Il) content indicates formation of pairs and clusters (possibly connected with antiferromagnetic coupling).
