Emission spectra, long lifetimes and surprisingly high quantum efficiencies were observed at 300 K in phospharc glasses with modifyers (such 3s lithium, magnesium. aluminium, zinc, barium, kmthanum and lead) containing highly varying manganese(I1) concentrations. l'hc strong shift toward the red at
