The slcgle-crys\*Zd absorption spectrum of ferroccne at 4.2% baa been obtained in the 3 000-6 000 .% region. The three observed bvlds were assigned aa spin-allowed d-d tr=itions. A definitive Iigand field interpretation of the electronic spectrum of ferrocene resulted.
Following -r-irradiation at 4.2 K co. 40% of the rsdic& in an ~~-denne~ t3 crymtzl xe paired compared to ca 3% follow- ing irradiation at 77 K. Two structurally different kinds of radica! pairs have been observed. One kind is similar to that formed on irradiation at 74 K and shows a hyperfine spliit
