✦ Synopsis

The l~~-encrgy vacuum ultraviolet absorption spectra of two series c?f molecules, one series containing the carbonvi group and the other beirg of It3b symmetry. exhibit line&ties when plotted ag&st iontiation potentials. By this means, the ric) -L 3pfR) transitions of the fast series are un~mbi~ou~y identified; fairly strong arguments are advanced in favor of n 0 -L 3s(R) and x -+ 3s(R) identifications in the szmc series; and a is 4 IT* identification is sqgested on the basis of default arguments. A brief discussion of assignments in *kc 2nd series is given. This approach to the identifxation of iow-ener_ry Rydbcrgs would seem to merit further investigation.
