Abstract
In this article, a low‐cost, compact printed microstrip‐fed circular monopole ultra‐wideband antenna with dual band‐notched function is proposed.By embedding a C‐shaped slot on the circular radiating patch and a pair of L‐shaped slots on the rectangular ground patch, dual band notched characteristics around 3.5 GHz for WiMAX and 5.5 GHz for wireless local‐area network (WLAN) can be obtained. The proposed antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested. The measured results show UWB impedance bandwidth with dual notch, stable radiation patterns, and constant gain. The proposed antenna, with a compact dimension of 24 × 36 mm^2^, operates over the frequency band from 2.5 to 10.6 GHz with S~11~ ≤ −10 dB, except the over the dual notch bands of 3.3–4.2 and 5.1–5.9 GHz. Group delay and transfer function indicate that the antenna has good transient response. In addition, the radiation patterns are nearly omnidirectional in H‐plane and typical monopole‐like in E‐plane. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
