โœฆ Synopsis

The basal fifth of the lamina, containing most of the gibberellin of young leaves, was the only part of the lamina that elongated. When the base of the lamina stopped elongating the gibberellin apparently moved up the lamina, but the leaf sheath still contained some gibberellin and continued to elongate. Old, fully elongated, leaves contained most auxin and tryptophan in the apical fifth of the lamina that was dying; young leaves contained insignificant amounts of auxin. Leaves contained two cytokinins; generally most cytokinin activity occurred in the apical fifth of leaves. Cytokinin activity was also detected in guttation drops and in cthanolic washings from leaf tips.

The aim of this work was to discover whether the respiration of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Huntsman) leaves, transferred to darkness after 7 h photosynthesis, showed an initial period of wasteful respiration. For young and old leaves, CO2 production and O2 uptake after 7 h photosynthesis were u

The quantitative estimation of chlorophyll in 28 wheat varieties showed significant differences. The amount of chlorophyll ranged from 1.78 to 2.95 mg/g of green leaf. The character in the F2 generation of the cross between C273 and S413 showed monogenic control with no dominance. The heritability o

The ability of immature embryos of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to respond to tissue culture has been shown to involve the group 2 chromosomes. The available group 2 ditelosomic and nullisomic-tetrasomic lines of 'Chinese Spring' wheat were used to determine the chromosome arm location and chromosom

The ability of immature embryos of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to respond in cell culture was examined in crosses between the 'Wichita' monosomic series and a highly regenerable line, 'ND7532'. Segregation in disomic controls and 13 monosomic families showed a good fit to a monogenic ratio indicati
