โœฆ Synopsis

The mean I& score on the PTI was 85.7, SD 14.0, while the mean SB I& score was 88.6, SD 13.9. The correlation between the SB and the P T I was .79. The PTI subtest correlations with the SB I& ranged from .43 (Size and Number) to .73 (Information and Comprehension). A split-half reliability coefficient of .96 was obtained on the Deviation I& of the PTI. Finally, intercorrelations among the PTI subtests ranged from .70 (Information Comprehension, Size and Number) to .05 (Picture Vocabulary, Similarities). All results are based upon 33 Ss because 7 Ss were eliminated due t o incomplete data.

SUMMARY

The concurrent validity of the French Pictorial Test of Intelligence (PTI) was investigated with 40 physically handicapped children. Each child had some degree of physical impairment that necessitated treatment. Thirty of the children required appliances to assist them. A correlation of .79 was obtained between the PTI and the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale, Form L-M. This coefficient is of sufficient magnitude t o consider use of the PTI with the physically disabled child. Intercorrelations among the PTI subtests were found to be generally low, which suggests that discrete functions are being measured. Reliability estimates suggested an appropriate degree of consistency.
