✦ Synopsis
The interaction energy between two hydrogen atoms in the D and D' 'II,, states of the hydrogen molecule has been calculated for large internuclear distances (12 =G R 4 25 bohr). The variational method and a very flexible trial wavefunction wece used. The results indicate-that far the states under consideration the Rayleigh-S&r&linger perturbation theory with the multi~ole expansion of the interaction hamiltonian gives relkble results only for R > 25 bohr i.e. in the region where the interaction energies are practically negligible.

The simplest methods of 2D 6-6 correlated spectroscopy (COSY and COSY LR) allow the easy observation of long-range coupling interactions. It is shown how these methods can lead to the discrimination between different pathways across single bonds: 4J through coplanar or gauche arrangement of the bond
