β¦ Synopsis
The (3000) and ( ) stretching overtone bands of silane, SiH.,, have been observed near 6362 and IO268 cm-' by Fourier transfer spectroscopy with a resolution of 0.01 cm-'. In both spectra the pseudo-symmetric-top rotational structure, similar to that observed in the (3000) band of germane, was clearly demonstrated. This indicated that these states are very near the localmode limit. Some striking intensity anomalies were also found.

We present a tensorial formalism adapted to the study of the ( \(n 000\) ) rovibrational stretching states of spherical tops in the local mode limit. A local symmetrized rovibrational basis is built to take explicitly into account the fact that. in these states, the local symmetry is \(C_{3 v}\) rat
