The optical properties of Ln 2 Ti 2 S 2 O 5 compounds (Ln=Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, and Y) have been measured. Diffuse reflectance spectra revealed a strong absorption band above 2 eV, which explains the color of the compounds. Moreover, other bands, with a lower intensity, have been attributed to
KLnTiO 4 (Ln ؍ La, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy), a new series of n ؍ 1 Ruddlesden+Popper phases, was synthesized by a two-step ion-exchange reaction. HLnTiO 4 was 5rst prepared by traditional acid exchange of NaLnTiO 4 , and the KLnTiO 4 series was subsequently formed from the reaction of HLnTiO 4 with h
