✦ Synopsis

Lithiation and Reactions of Stilbene Oxides: Synthetic Utility. -The reactions of lithiated trans-and cis-stilbenes with various electrophiles are investigated. The lithiation occurs stereospecifically at the benzylic position in the case of the cis-stilbene (X). In the case of the trans isomer (I), the ortho-directing capability of the oxirane moiety in lithiation of the phenyl ring is observed for the first time. -(
