โฆ Synopsis
or three times in opposite directions, and fixed on to it. The lower loop is wound round the bobbin several times (the bobbin can be dispensed with/if the specimen is formed into a sufficiently accurate cylinder) so that it fits tightly into the recess on the teflon end piece. The rotation of the vernier round the cryostat axis is transmitted to the bobbin by the teflon guide washer, 8, which rotates round an axis perpendicular to the cryostat axis. For a graduated circle of diameter 65 mm the accuracy in establishing the angles is better than 1 ยฐ and can be improved by increasing the diameter.
The maximum dimensions of the specimen are determined by the inner diameter of the cryostat inside the resonator (constructed with a tail). Liquid filled and blow-through cryostats with 6 mm inner diameter tail pieces were made for a 9 mm diameter resonator input aperture. With this diameter a specimen of-volume up to 60-70 mm 3 placed in the bobbin can be oriented.
