The contour invariance of J-integral and the strain distribution in the plastic region near the crack tip were experimentally investigated within the deformation theory of plasticity. The relationship between criteria of non-linear fracture mechanics is determined. The possibility of re-calculation

β¦ Synopsis
A calibrated finite clement technique, previously described by the author, is used to study the effect of orthotropic material properties on computed values of the stress intensity factor. For sufficiently long notched specimens in tension, bending and shear, the effect of otthotropy is negligible but it may become appreciable for shorter lengths. It is also found that orthotropic properties have a large infiuence on the stress intensity factors for a cleavage specimen.
