Nonplanar triptycene derivatives are used for the first time as active subunits for second-harmonic generation. The quadratic hyperpolarizabihty coefficient ,V of 2nitrotriptycene is measured in solution by use of the electric-field-induced second-harmonic gcncration (EFISH) tcchniquc. Its magnitude
