✦ Synopsis

Line intensity measurements have been made on the n 8 band of HNO 3 using a high-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectrum in the region 739-800 cm 01 . A least-squares fit of a total of 710 line intensities in the P and R branches was performed, leading to accurate determination of five dipole moment operator constants. By utilizing these constants, the observed line intensities are well reproduced with an average random error of 6% and the integrated band intensity is found to be 15.7 { 0.9 cm 02 atm 01 at 296 K.

Absolute line intensities for the n 9 fundamental ( 458.228 cm 01 ) in HNO 3 were determined for the first time, using tunable diode laser spectroscopy. This technique permitted short integration times, proven important to avoid dissociation in this highly reactive species. Thirty-eight transitions

Using a high-resolution (R = 0.0025 cm-1) Fourier transform spectrum of nitric acid recorded at room temperature in the 1100-1240 cm-1 region, it has been possible to perform a more extended analysis of the nu8 + nu9 band of HNO3 centered at 1205.7075 cm-1. As in a recent analysis of this band [W. F
