✦ Synopsis

The Mach-Zehnder interferometer is used in combination with axial tomography to obtain three-dimensional temperature measurements. Although axial tomography is well developed for when the two-dimensional projections of the field to be reconstructed are available in all directions, it is rather awkward when the viewing range of the projections is severely limited. It was demonstrated earlier, however, that when an initial guess of the reconstructed field is available, good quality reconstructions can be obtained. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the usefulness of this technique with actual experimental data that contain noise. The case studied is that of an axisymmetric air jet, and the axial tomographic algorithm used is the algebraic reconstruction technique (ART) with some modifications.
