✦ Synopsis


Two years ago we published an article in this journal showing that treatment of 7-8-week-old SCID mice with neurotoxic doses of capsaicin protected the mice against T-cell transferinduced chronic colitis for a period of 6 weeks. 1 These data are in agreement with other studies showing that neurotoxic doses of capsaicin in neonatal rats and mice protect the adult animals against dextran sulfate-induced colitis and development of spontaneous autoimmune diabetes, respectively. 2,3 Subsequently, we tried to document the colitis-protective effect of capsaicin treatment in a variety of experimental setups.
