The nitro group in allylic nitro compounds is replaced by cyano group on treatment with cyanotrimethylsilane in the presence of Lewis acid. Allylic nitro compounds are easily prepared by well established procedures with carbon-carbon bond forming reaction under mild conditions 1,2)
