A simplified yet sensitive system is described for the detection of the twophoton ionization signal in solution. The photo-ionization cell consists of a quartz cuvette and a pair of stainless steel electrodes. Several aromatic compounds, including quinones, can be detected in the ng l-I-mg 1-l range

The iotiation thxeshold of fluoranthene and of TMPD in rz-pentane was determmed by laser two-photon ionization (TPI) and found to be 450 c-0.05 and 3 88 + O-05 eV respectmely.
