โฆ Synopsis
The laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technique was used to measure the rate at which CN radicals (V = 0,1,2) are removed in collisions with BrCN and ClCN. The rate constants are (9 * 1) X lo-l4 cm3 molecule-' s-i for BrCN and (2.1 +_ 0.3) X lo-i3 cm3 molecule-' s-l for ClCN. They are independent of the CN vibrational energy content. It is therefore concluded that chemical reaction dominates the removal and that the upper limit for vibrational quenching of both species is (1 -2) X lo-i4 cm3 molecule-' s-l.

Rates of CN reactions with diacetylene (DA) and dicyanoacetylene (DCA) have been measured at room temperature from the decay of the CN radical at various sample pressures by laser induced fluorescence. The rate constants are (4.2 + 0.2) ร I0 l0 and (5.4\_ 0.2)ร 10-13 in units of cm 3 molec-t s-l for
The H t BrCN reaction and the H abstraction reactions from HI, H#, PHJ, SiH4, CHJOCHa, c-CSH10 and C ( CH,)I by CN were studied by infrared chemiluminescence in a fast Bow reactor. From the dependence of the HCN and HNC emission intensities on temperature, activation energies of 5.2k 0.4 and 7.5 k 0
The rate coefficients of the reactions (1) and CN + 0 -GO + N (2) CN + 0 2 -NCO + 0 were determined in a series of shock tube experiments from CN time histories recorded using a narrow-linewidth cw laser absorption technique. The ring dye laser source generated 388.44 nm radiation corresponding to
