✦ Synopsis

The visl%le luminescence resulting from multiple-photon absorption of CO, laser radzation in 0504 depends upon the laser intensity as well as fluenco. The use of single-mode laser pulses, shaped by electro-optic crystal switching, has enabled this intensity dependence to be determined quantitatively.

The frequency dependence of the dissociation rate of the 0~04 molecule by a strong infrared resonant field is shown to have a rich structure due to multiple photon absorption resonances. This permits laser isotope separation with small isotope shift. No dissociation was observed in the case of excit

SiH, absorption of 10 pm laser radialion from a continuously [unable COz laser has been measured. The occurrence of mulGple-pholon excitarion has been shown from comparison wirh linear absorplion spectra and from the dependence of some peak inlensiries upon laser fluence.
