Aznethanc undergoes two-photon photodissociation when irradbted by a Q-switched ruby Laser. The two-photon nature of the process is demon&a&d quantitatively for the fit time in a gas-phase reaction. The absorption cross section is found to be 6 = (6.5 f. 2.5) X 10-52 cm+ seclphoton molecule.

Laser-induced nonlinear photochernic+ reactions initiated by primary two-photon absorption processes have been observed in various systems. For the most part Iiquid phase systems have been studied [ 1,2] but so.me solid-state 133 and gas-phase [4-65 work has also been reported. Some of the gas-phase studies
