โฆ Synopsis
Excited iodine atoms :(*PI/~) are formed by laser irradiation of C2FS I at 2950 A. The mczm radiative lifetime T of these metastsble atoms and their bimolecular rate constant k2 for deactivation in collisions with C2 F5 I were measured to be: T = 108 +-10 ms; k2 = (1.8 i 0.1) X 10-l' cm3/molec s. * We are gratefu1 to Dr. Kluge and Professor Kelker of Hoe&t AG. Ffm. for delivery of the various samples and the very careful cleaning by preparative gaschromatogaphy.
