This paper describes a ¨ery simple and stable harmonically mode-locked erbium-doped fiber ring laser that produces high-peakpower, 1 ps transform-limited sech 2 optical pulses at 1564 nm at a repetition rate of 1 GHz. This ¨ery short pulse duration is attributed to the insertion of a comb generator
