✦ Synopsis
A structured excitation spectrum of Zn* in the 420-470 nm region was registered in zinc vapor subjected to pump-and-probe excitation as the emitted bound-free fluorescence was monitored at 274 nm. The excitation and fluorescence spectra were interpreted as due to transitions involving the 'Z: (5 'S), '&(4 'P), and X'C: (4 'So) states. An analysis ofthe vibrational structure yielded vibrational constants and relative energies for the 'xi and 'II, states.

The A 2 P-X 2 S (1,1) band of ZrN between 5642 and 5879 A ˚has been studied using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. ZrN was produced by reacting vaporized ZrCl 4 with microwave discharged N 2 gas. All the 12 branches expected from a 2 P-2 S transition have been observed and assigned. Various
Polarization labelling spectroscopy is applied to study excited states of K2 lying in the energy range 23800-25800 cm-' above the bottom of the ground state. The two observed states are identified as 3 'l&(4 'S+S 'P) and 3 '&/ (4 \*S+ 3 'D). Molecular constants are derived for both states from a Dun
The radiative lifetimes of C$(A'II,, v'= 0 and 3) were determined by laser-induced fluorescence to be re(0) = 18.5 f 3 and ~(3)=11.4rt:2 cs. In addition, the lifetimes of C2(d311,, u'= 0 and 1) were measured as re =106+15 ns and 105+15 ns, respectiveiy. The error is 30.
