The present study demonstrates the polymerization of ketenes by using lanthanoid isopropoxide as a novel initiator to produce a polyester of high molecular weight. This is the first example of an efficient room-temperature polymerization of ketenes. As a result of model reactions, it is indicated th

β¦ Synopsis
Lanthanum isopropoxide was found to serve as a novel anionic initiator for the polymerization of hexyl isocyanate affording poly(hexy1 isocyanate) with very high molecular weight (M, > lo6) under appropriate conditions. Other lanthanoid alkoxides, such as samarium, ytterbium and yttrium isopropoxides, also brought about the polymerization of hexyl isocyanate. Butyl, isobutyl, octyl and m-tolyl isocyanates also underwent the polymerization reaction to form the corresponding polymers by using lanthanum isopropoxide as initiator, while polymerizations of tert-butyl and cyclohexyl isocyanates with lanthanum isopropoxide did not occur under identical conditions.

## Abstract Anionic polymerizations with an anthraceneβderived initiator are described as giving rise to polymers containing only one chromophore on each chain. The approach taken herein involves the deprotonation of dihydroanthracene (1) and the initiation of methyl methacrylate, vinylpyridine and
The anionic polymerization of 1,3-butadiene using a novel metalloidal anion initiator, triallylstannyllithium (TALi)-allyllithium ( ALi), was studied. The TALi-ALi initiated anionic polymerization of 1,3-butadiene gave the star polymer along with the linear polybutadiene (PBD). The star polymer cons
