Seizure-prone patients may be chronically treated with diphenylhydantoin, a mitogenic agent excreted in the urine. Chronic ingestion of diphenylhydantoin by 64 rats failed to demonstrate vesical epithelial tumor formation under conditions which demonstrate the tumorigenicity of other vesical carcinogens.
