Treatment of 2-methylcinnamic acid with HzL80 at 1 OOOC under acidic conditions leads to high incorporation of I80 by exchange. Methods have been developed for chemically and isotopically efficient conversion to the corresponding [~arbonyl-'~O] methyl ester, to ['80]-5-methylisoquinolinone (an inhibitor of DNA repair) and to 1 -(ft~an-2-yl-['~O]methoxy)-5-methylisoquinoline.
