โฆ Synopsis
Intermediate TiO 2 layer stabilizes Pt anode catalyst in H 2 S SOFC
Supported Pt anode catalyst in a hydrogen sulfide SOFC with YSZ electrolyte was examined at 700-900ยฐC. Increasing the anode feed H 2 S concentration did not improve the cell performance, due to Pt anode corruption; reversible formation and decomposition of PtS on the Pt/YSZ interface led to Pt/YSZ electrochemical interface instability. Membrane structure and performance were stabilized by interposing a thin TiO 2 layer between the Pt and YSZ. The stabilized open-circuit voltage depended on anode and cathode feed gas flow rates. This behavior is attributed to reactant crossover, changing the partial pressures of product SO 2 and H 2 O.
