## Abstract The rates of the binary copolymerizations of __N__‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, styrene, and methyl methacrylate were investigated dilatometrically. In both systems with __N__‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone as one of the two monomers the rate of copolymerization can be described by a theory of Abkin, wher

✦ Synopsis
The polymerization rate of two binary monomer systems (styrene (St)/N-vinyl-Z-pyrrolidone (NVP) and NVP/methyl methacrylate (MMA)) was investigated dilatometrically in bulk at 60 "C with AIBN as initiator. Wile the copolymerization rate of the system St/NVP can be satisfactorily described by means of the classical reaction model, this is not the case for the system NVP/MMA. This deviation from the classical model can be explained by a charge-transfer interaction between NVP and MMA which was measured by means of ' H and I3C NMR spectroscopy.

The polymerization rate of the ternary monomer system, styrene, N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, and methyl methacrylate, was investigated in bulk at 60 "C with AIBN as initiator. The results were interpreted by means of the well known classical reaction model and a newly derived simplified reaction model. Th
