✦ Synopsis

In the present investigation the kinetics of thermal polymerization of shellac has been studied. A linear relationship between the intrinsic viscosity [v] and the time of polymeriration has been observed up to a certain extent of reaction followed by a sharp rise in value of [v] near the gel point. After gelation the intrinsic viscosity of the sol fraction again falls abruptly. Besides, an attempt has also been made to understand the nature of gelation from the weight fractions of gel formed after prolonged curing a t different temperatures.

## Abstract The kinetics of radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate were investigated in a dioxane solution with cyclohexanone as initiator. It was found that the overall rate of reaction initiated with cyclohexanone (__R__~__p__~) is proportional to the concentration of monomer and to the sq
