โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The kinetics of radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate were investigated in a dioxane solution with cyclohexanone as initiator. It was found that the overall rate of reaction initiated with cyclohexanone (R~p~) is proportional to the concentration of monomer and to the square root of the concentration of the initiator. The effect of temperature on the R~p~ in the temperature range of 65โ€“95ยฐC was discussed. The Arrhenius activation energy E~a~ estimated for the temperature range of 65โ€“75ยฐC was 137 kJ mol^โˆ’1^.

Polymerization of methyl methacrylate was studied in an oil and water microemulsion stabilized with styrene 12-butinoyloxy-9-octadecenoic acid. During the polymerization the size change of the monomer-swollen particles with conversion was measured with photon correlation spectroscopy, and the hydrod
