Abstract
The kinetics of the reactions of F and C1 atoms with ethylene oxide have been studied using relative rate techniques in 10β700 Torr of either nitrogen or air diluent at 295 Β± 2 K; k(F + C~2~H~4~O) = (9.4 Β± 1.6) Γ 10^β11^ and k(C1 + C~2~H~4~O) = (5.0 Β± 0.9) Γ 10^β12^ cm^3^ molecule^β1^ s^β1^. The result for k(F + C~2~H~4~O) is in good agreement with the literature data. The result for k(C1 + C~2~H~4~O) is a factor of 5.6 lower than that reported previously. It seems likely that in the previous study most of the loss of C~2~H~4~O attributed to reaction with C1 atoms was actually caused by unwanted secondary reactions leading to an overestimate of k(C1 + C~2~H~4~O). ## Abstract The kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of chlorine atoms with __n__βbutanal and __n__βpentanal have been investigated in a 142βL reaction cell coupled to a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer at 298 Β± 2 K and at 800 Β± 3 Torr. Competitive studies of the reactions of ground-state oxygen atoms, generated by mercury-photosensitized decomposition of nitrous oxide, have been carried out with ethylene and all the fluoroethylenes using 2-(trifluoromethy1)-propene as reference compound. From measurements at 25Β°C and 150Β°C relativ
Using relative rate techniques the reactions of chlorine and fluorine atoms with HC(O)F have been determined to proceed with rate constants of and respectively. Stated errors reflect statistical uncertainty; possible systematic uncertainties could add additional 10% and 20% ranges to the values of k
