✦ Synopsis

The kinetics of the reaction of manganese(III) with oxalic acid (OA) has been studied in H2SO 4 solutions. Under the experimental conditions of 6 x 10 -3 < [OA]o < 0.4mol dm-3 and [H2SO4]o >~ 0.2 mol dm-3 the observed pseudofirst order rate constant kob ~ follows the expression

where kl, k2 and K 2 have been estimated by a non-linear least-squares method. The kinetics of this component reaction of the BZ type oscillation system with oxalic acid was influenced by the addition ofHSO 4, SO]-and C10 2 ions. Oxalate complexes of manganese(III) decompose by a net process that can be generalized as 2Mn m + C2 O2-2Mn" + 2CO2.

The kinetics of the iodide-catalyzed reaction of manganese(III) with arsenic(III) in sulfuric acid solution are studied in this work. The reaction rate was followed photometrically at 486 nm. The conditions under which the iodide ions have a maximum influence were established and the kinetic express
