✦ Synopsis

Absolute rate constants for the gas phase reaction of OH radicals with pyrrole tk,) and thiophene ( k , ) have been measured over the temperature ranges 298-440 and 274-382 K, respectively, using the flash photolysis-resonance fluorescence technique. The rate constants obtained were independent of the total pressure of argon diluent over the range 25-100 torr and were fit by the Arrhenius expressions k , = (2.7 2 : : )

x 10 ~' ' exp((403 t 93)/T] cm3 molecule-' s-' and k , = (1.2:;;) x exp[(584 t 2171/T] cm3 molecule-' s-' with rate constants a t 298 ir 2 K of k, = 11.03 ? 0.061 x lo-'" cm3 molecule-s-' and k , = (8.9 t-0.7) x lo-" cm3 molecule ' s-'. [These errors represent two standard deviations (systematic errors could constitute an additional ca. 10% uncertainty)]. These results are discussed with respect to the previous literature data and the atmospheric lifetimes of pyrrole and thiophene.

CF 3 CF 2 CH 2 OH is a new chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) alternative. However, there are few data about its atmospheric fate. The kinetics of its atmospheric oxidation, the OH radical reaction of CF 3 CF 2 CH 2 OH, has been investigated in a 2-liter Pyrex reactor in the temperature range of 298 ϳ 356 K u

## Abstract The rate constants, __k__~1~, of the reaction of CF~3~OC(O)H with OH radicals were measured by using a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic technique in an 11.5‐dm^3^ reaction chamber at 242–328 K. OH radicals were produced by UV photolysis of an O~3~–H~2~O–He mixture at an initial
