β¦ Synopsis
The kinetics of the dhcp-fcc phase transformation in La was investigated at several points on the phase boundary employing a diamond-anvil type high pressure cell with an energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction system in the pressuretemperature region between 0-4.6 GPa and 20-125Β°C. Pressures were determined by the ruby-fluorescence method.
The data of the growth of the fcc and dhcp phases with time were fitted with the Avrami equation (and analyzed according to classical nucleation and growth theory). The region of indifference (hysteresis widths) was determined by linear extrapolation of the values of 1/.r vs pressure.

A method has been suggested of estimating the thermodynamic equilibrium pressure of transformations with large hysteresis. The method is based on the measurement of the pressure dependence of the kinetics of the forward and the reverse transformations. The measurements suggest that the equilibrium p
