✦ Synopsis
A method has been suggested of estimating the thermodynamic equilibrium pressure of transformations with large hysteresis. The method is based on the measurement of the pressure dependence of the kinetics of the forward and the reverse transformations. The measurements suggest that the equilibrium pressure of the fcc~,~-bcc transformation in ytterbium is 3 GPa at 300 K.
