✦ Synopsis

Akstrati-Folaarographic reduction of the zincmaleic acid complexes has beeu studied at the dropping mercury electrode (dme) in aqueous medium at ,30" and ionic strength 2.0. Gelling's method is used for determining the reversible half-wave potentials and the kinetic parameters (a and K,) for the quasi-reversibIe reduction of the complexes. The values of DC and K, varied from 0.41 to 0.35 and 2.58 x 10-j to 2.21 x 10m3 cm/s respectively with the l&and concentration changing from 0.00 to 0.60 M. Analysis of the polarographic characteristics of the system by the DeFord and Hume method gave the following vaIues of the overall stability constants: fl, = 50 f 2; /I1 = 160 f IO and & = 2250 f 50. The' overall stability constants of the zinwnaleic acid complexes have also been calculated usiog the recently developed method of Mihailov. The resulting values are: fil = 29.9, /I1 = 301.4 and fi3 = 2025. Pwzntage distribution of the complex species present in the system is shown as a function of logjligand concentration.

## Abstract The substitution of __N__‐alkyl substituted ethylenediamines for chloride ions in the rapidly equilibrating system has been investigated in aqueous acid medium. The kinetic data can be accommodated by the general rate law where __n__ = 0, 1, or 2 and __m__ = 0, 1, or 2, depending on w
