β¦ Synopsis
The exponential relaxation of CHI, produced by the reaction 0 + CzHa --+ CH3 + HCO, to its steady-state concentration was quantitatively monitored after the reactants were mixed. The relaxation profiles yield the rate constant of the reaction 0 + CH3 -+ HzCO + H equal to (1.85 f 0.28) X cm3/molecule-sec at 300Β°K. Ancillary experiments yielded values for the rate constant for the reaction of 0 atoms with C Z H ~ at 30O0K, the average of which is 7.7 X cm3/molecule-sec. The experimental technique, which employs a fast-flow reactor coupled to a photoionization mass spectrometer, is described in detail and its potential discussed.
*The difference is actually less than a factor of 2 if one uses a recent direct determination of the rate constant for the 0 -Itetramethylethylene reaction to recalculate the apparent kp in [lo].
Using the value reported in [ 191, the apparent kl becomes 11.5 x lo-".

## Abstract The reaction of methyl radicals with atomic and molecular oxygen was studied with a photoionization mass spectrometer. The methyl radicals were generated by reacting oxygen atoms with ethylene in a fastβflow tube reactor. The rate constant for the reaction of methyl radicals with oxygen
The kinetics of the reaction of CCI 3 with O(3P) have been investigated in a heatable tubular reactor coupled to a photoionization mass spectrometer. The decay of CCI 3 was monitored as a function of O atom concentration ([O]o/[CC13] 0 > 20) to determine the rate constant of the reaction as a functi

The kinetics of the reaction CH3 + 0 2 (+M) -+ CH302 (+MI have been studied, using the technique of flash photolysis and kinetic spectroscopy to follow the methyl radical concentration. The order of the reaction lies between 2 and 3 throughout the range of pressure from 25 to 380 torr at 22"C, and t
