The technique of laser photolysis of alkyl and perfluoroalkyl iodides at 266 nm followed by time-resolved detection of the 1.3-pm emission from I\*('PLI2) has been used to measure the rate constants for deactivation of I\* by CH31, C'HJ, CF31, and CH,. The recommended values are (2.76 2 0.22) x (2.

✦ Synopsis
The rate of the reaction CH212 + H I 2 CH,I + I , has been followed spectrophotometrically from 201 .O to 31 1 .Z0. The rate constant for the reaction I + CH,I, CH,I + I, fits the equation, log (k,/M-'sec-') = 11.45 f 0.18 -(15.11 f 0.44)/0. This value, combined with the assumption that E2 = 0 & 1 kcal/mole, leads to AH;,(CH,I, g) = 55.0 f 1.6 kcal/mole and DH&(H-CH,I) = 103.8 f 1.6 kcal/mole. The kinetics of the disproportionation, 2 CH,I f CH4+CH,I, were studied at 331' and are compatible with the above values. 1 (1, 2) RI + I T R -+ I, (3,4)
R + H I T RH + I From these studies, not only thermochemical properties of the organic iodides, but also those of radicals produced during the reaction have been determined 3 t-1-31.
