✦ Synopsis

Electric birefringence measurements were carried out in sodium di-2-ethylhexylsulfosuccinate(AOT)-water-dodecane(decane), water/oil microemulsions, along different concentration paths. The Kerr constant as a function of watercore droplet radius or the water volume fraction have been determined. This electro-optic effect was related to the droplet deformation induced by the applied electric field. An estimate of the bending modulus based on van tier Linden's theory is proposed. The behaviour of the Kerr constant and the validity of the theoretical approach near a transition phase zone was analyzed.

We consider the effect of a static field on the average orientation of a "charged dumbbell" made of two bound droplets bearing one electron charge on its waist, and the Kerr effects resulting from this orientation. A negative contribution is found which may be dominant in some conditions.

We carried out an investigation on the influence of several alkylamines, frequently present in reactions carried out in microemulsions, on the properties of the water/AOT/isooctane system. The presence of alkylamines has an important effect on the electrical percolation phenomena. This effect of ami

Compartmentalization of chemistry in reverse micelles and microemulsions has resulted in novel chemistries ranging from organic synthesis through nanoparticle formation ( \(1-3\) ). Mechanisms of reactant transport in and out of swollen micelles (4) are key to understanding the control of these chem
