β¦ Synopsis
In recent years the Journal of Sound and <ibration (JSV) has adopted several electronically-enabled features aimed at facilitating dissemination of scienti"c results over the World Wide Web. The "rst of these is the creation of an electronic version of JSV that permits readers to read papers up to six weeks before the printed version is published*see http://www.idealibrary.com.
The second feature is JSV #, which is a JSV repository set up on the Homepage of the journal. JSV # is freely and easily accessible to all: one goes to the JSV Homepage (http://academicpress.com/jsv) and clicks the button [ jsv#]. The main idea of JSV#is to take advantage of the electronic medium to augment the basic journal format.
The site consists of four sections. Conference Announcements, the hitherto most frequently visited section, contains up-to-date information about forthcoming congresses, meetings and similar events of international value. Organizers of such conferences, willing to place an announcement on JSV #, are kindly asked to send the necessary information (title of conference, location, dates, and URL or email/postal address of a contact person) to the WWW editor of JSV #([email protected]) as soon as possible.
Other sections*Supplementary Material, Discussions, and Information and Resources* contain material additional to the papers published in the printed version of JSV which may be of interest to specialists in the sound and vibration sciences. Readers can not only "nd useful information but also take part in discussions on &&hot topics'', express their own opinions, give comments on published JSV papers, etc. Submission procedures are very simple*directly from the Discussions page or via the WWW Editor. Now, in addition to the above possibilities, JSV o!ers to its authors a new opportunity to expand the content of their printed papers by accompanying them with Online Appendices supporting the main results. These appendices are presented digitally on an authors' site and may contain experimental data, source codes, sets of illustrations, video clips, and any lengthy parts of the papers for which the material is of much greater volume than is allowed in the traditional printed format. Generally, the
