✦ Synopsis

The idea of the publishers, Academic Press, of the Journal of Sound and Vibration (JSV) to set up a repository in the Home Page of JSV is both timely and needed. The existing electronic means of communication provide the fastest way of exchanging results and ideas among scientists worldwide. It seems that in the near future most new scienti®c information will appear ®rst in electronic journals, while the traditional printed journals will contain mainly well-refereed and selected reports of completed works, comprehensive reviews, and state-ofthe-art summaries. Of course the new JSV repository, which will be known as JSV +, is not yet an electronic journal, but it is a ®rst important step toward it, addressed mostly to young scientists closely familiar with this type of communication. No doubt the next steps will follow soon. I was asked to participate in this process as the WWW Editor of JSV and was pleased to accept.
