✦ Synopsis
to which one may subscribe separately, offers much the same fare as the journal: fiction, literary reviews, and occasional reportage on literary events such as Nicaragua's International Book Fair. All three pieces are liberally illustrated with photographs and drawings by Chimera Connections' staff artists.
Of particular interest to aspiring or established small press authors is Chimera Connections' emphasis on their literary marketplace. Both the newsletter and its parent serial offer detailed information on serials seeking unsolicited manuscripts--both those considered to be "safe bets" and those to avoid--and general market news. Advertisements for small press publications list not only published works but contests and solicitations for contributions from the general public.
Despite the possible drawbacks in Chimera Connections' complicated format and the rather unattractive typeface used in these issues, the serial offers a combination of literary works by both published and lesser-known authors and information on the world of small press publishing that may be of real value to large creative writing programs.
