By using a semi-classical model, which explicitly includes the centrifugal stretch coupling term, for vibrational transitions in diatomic molecules we have investigated the importance of this term. Calculations of VV and VT rates for vibrational transitions in deuterium are compared with experimental data and previous calculations on hydrogen in order to explore isotopic effects.
