KING Physcion or 3-methyl-6-methoxy-l,8-dihydroxy anthraquinone, m. p. 207*', has been isolated from the petroleum ether extract of the seeds of Ditremexa occzdentalis, L. The isolation and identification rocedures are described, as well as the preparation of the diacetate, the mononitro ierivative, and of physcion anthranol B. The iden.. tity of the isolated material as physcion was established by the determination of a mixed melting point with a known sample from another source. Paper chromatograms were run and the R, values were determined. ITREMEXA OCCIDENTALIS, L. (Cassia occidentalis, L.), Senna family, is a shrub which *
