✦ Synopsis
The hydrothermal reactions of CuBr 2 , CuBr, and ethylenediamine have resulted in the synthesis of two new compounds. [Cu(H 2 NCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 ) 2 ] [{Cu 2 Br 4 }] has a two-dimensional sheet structure while [Cu(H 2 NCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 ) 2 ] [{Cu 5 Br 7 }] crystallizes as a three-dimensional network. Both compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray di4raction. The following are the crystal data for [Cu(H 2 NCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 ) 2 ] [{Cu 2 Br 4 }] (1), triclinic space group P1 (No. 1) with a ؍ 6.491(1) A s , b ؍ 8.012(2) A s , c ؍ 8.070(2) A s , ؍ 107.713(5)3, ؍ 109.976(4)3, ؍ 96.815(4)3, Z ؍ 1, d calc ؍ 2.88 g cm ؊3 , and wR2 (R1) ؍ 0.093(0.037), and [Cu(H 2 NCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 ) 2 ] [{Cu 5 Br 7 }] (2), orthorhombic space group Pnma (No. 62), with a ؍ 12.886(4) A s , b ؍ 16.776(5) A s , c ؍ 9.170(3) A s , Z ؍ 4, d calc ؍ 3.55 g cm ؊3 , and wR2 (R1) ؍ 0.099 (0.073). Both structures consist of anionic one-dimensional copper(I) bromide chains interspersed with cationic [Cu(H 2 NCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 ) 2 ] 2؉ units.
