✦ Synopsis

The solid state copolymerization ofmaleic anhydride and endomethylene-tetrahydrophthalic monopropyl ester was studied in the eutectic and other mixtures. It was concluded that the copolymerization of the monomers, neither of which polymerizes alone in the solid state, is made possible by the increased mobility of the monomer molecules at the crystal interfaces. Copolymerization is thought to occur only at the interface; this limitation has an effect upon the compositions of the copolymers.
